What always makes me upset - even rageful - every time I think on it, is how in our western world we use clear, pure, drinkable water to flush the toilet. Such a waste! If the politics decided on it, it would be quite easy to change that, have an alternative system where the flush water comes from rain water, or our own used grey water. I just can't get my head around the waste of using drinkable water for flushing. Sigh.

I think this is an excellent example. In fact, in the novel I'm reading at the moment, there is a minor character who is locked in a room and drinks water from the toilet cistern, knowing it is drinkable. Sigh indeed!

This is a really good point, and one I had never really thought about.

I think it drown on me when I was about 10 years old, visiting Tunisia, living for a couple of weeks in someone's house and realising that water does not come from the tap, but from much further, there's a whole journey to get it there, and that when it's not the case, life is not as easy but also much more respectful of the ressource and the work necessary to make it available.

That's a good age to absorb this lesson too. I really didn't think about it until I had source, collect, and purify all my water, for weeks and weeks.

I have a feeling that, even in our lifetimes, we're going to see a major shift in thinking about water. I just don't see how we can sustain our current usage on the aging and insufficient infrastructure we have here in the UK.

I also think that one of the reasons the UK government is so adamant that there will not be another Indyref is not because of oil, but water.

I think you may have a point...

My dad always told me that the next world war will be about water.
