A Crow's Nest micro-season: Part 2 of 3: The skills needed for inspiring travel can be learned and polished before leaving your own home—whether you are globally feral, a digital nomad, or slow, sustainable traveller.
Great article about travel inspiration, both near and far.
I think sometimes we get caught up in looking at the places that tick boxes and tend to skim over what is right in front of us.
I like how you mentioned the power of observation. People watching and conversation can tell you so much about a place. In this world of instant connectivity and gratification through social media, we have forgotten what it is like to simply exist in a place, if only for a moment. Be present, be silent. Watch, smell, feel, hear. Give in to your senses and discover a renewed vision of the world.
Loved it. It's odd how some work just doesn't land in certain places then catches in others. We are spending time going to places in Brittany this year -- we moved here in lockdown and home is still so new and uncharted -- so this really rang bells.
Thank you! I'm really glad it rang bells. I believe there's so much to learn by looking at where we are, so many places close to home which we could look at with fresh eyes (or even see things for the first time). Too often, I find people can get a little obsessed with the distant and exotic, when there are wonders all over, although I suspect a lot of people learnt this the hard way during lockdown, hopefully getting out and discovering marvels within a very small area near their home.
And there is a LOT to discover where you live, after all! Brittany is a destination unto itself, full of things to see. I certainly can't wait to visit again!
Thank you for taking the time to share such a great comment, I agree with everything you say here, so much of the magic of truly existing, of being in a place and time, comes through silent study and observation. There is a great big, wonderful world of people and places out there, even within a really small area near home! Thanks again!
