This ➡️ However, I make mistakes. Perhaps I miss a leter, or aspace. Perhaps i don’t capitalise or I spell sometihng incorectly.
I use pen and paper for my drafts. A G2 gel pen, so very important. My pens need to write in the cold weather and if it ever smudges then I use that for draft character. Words for me are like projectile vomiting - sometimes just one or two bits are used. I'm too tired to think most of the time so allowing the deep part of my brain to just write - 15 minutes at a time usually - is a good start.
Thank you for your insight into the drafting process. My past professional writing was in the corporate and educational fields, writing to spec. True drafting honestly wasn't that useful; I did careful outlining, filled it in with research notes, and the product just wrote itself. At the same time, I was doing early era blogging-for-fun, where I really didn't need to worry about the final product.
Writing now on Substack, where I try to summon up a modicum of creativity, I've found myself overwhelmed and paralyzed by trying to write, edit, proofread, research and illustrate (photos) all at the same time. I'm starting to learn to draft, but it doesn't come easily.
Yup. I XXX rather than TK, and also just write for as long as my brain works or until I need to go do something else. Stopping mid word or sentence has not worked for me … I always forget where I was going and have to scratch that out (I write by hand) in order to start again. But yes, this is first draft, and I’m not immune to going down research rabbit holes if I think it’ll enrich the work.
The hardest thing in the world for me is to write without simultaneously editing. I know I should but it's hard to shut off that part of my brain. 500 words in 30 minutes is a sky-high goal. I can't type that fast, even when the words rush past. But maybe if I ignored the mistakes I could come close. I've never heard of TK so I had to look it up. My method is to enclose the whatever in square brackets [best friend] though caps locking would make it stand out even more. Starting with TK would make it easy to search for those things.

Thank you for sharing your process.
Yes indeed! Well put (and explained)
